UFC 139: Gleison Tibau Vs. Rafael Dos Anjos

Round 1: Both men standing Southpaw, dos Anjos working the outside while Tibau holds the center and stalks. Nice three-piece lands for dos Anjos. Tibau lands a powerful takedown, and dos Anjos almost bucks him off using the butterfly guard, but Tibau held top position. Dos Anjos gets to his feet and goes for a takedown of his own, but is denied. They dig in and trade from the pocket, both men landing. Dos Anjos moves in behind some punches and hits a big takedown. Tibau gets to his feet with ease and shoves dos Anjos off of him. Tibau lands some solid shots with about thirty to go. Dos Anjos lands a nice uppercut and transitions well to a takedown, but Tibau defends and turns dos Anjos into the fence.

Round 2: They touch gloves to start it, but the action is halted quickly to cut some hanging tape from Tibau’s glove. Dos Anjos cracks Tibau with a right hand. Evenly-contested fight so far this round, with neither man taking a clear edge. Dos Anjos avoids the takedown. Dos Anjos shoots for a takedown of his own, but Tibau displays very nice takedown defense in avoiding it. They fight for position against the fence and dos Anjos misses an elbow on the break. Tibau lands a hard right that puts dos Anjos on his heels. Tibau pours it on a bleeding and reeling dos Anjos, absolutely battering him on the fence, but dos Anjos keeps to his feet and conscious somehow, retaining his wits well enough to fire back before the bell.

Round 3: Dos Anjos gets in a good punch to start off the round, he looks to have recovered well from Tibau’s second-round assault. Dos Anjos getting in some leg kicks, but the striking has gone back to being mostly even, both men landing sporadically. Tibau hits a strong double leg with a little over two minutes to go. Dos Anjos gets to his feet without taking any damage and goes for the takedown himself. Tibau defends and goes for one of his own, which dos Anjos defends and reverses. Dos Anjos working very hard to complete the takedown, but Tibau is keeping to his feet with thirty seconds to go. They separate and exchange, dos Anjos going wild and missing. Tibau lands a hard left before the bell.
