UFC 139: Miguel Torres Vs. Nick Pace

Round 1: Torres looks to come out aggressive, Pace pecks him with a jab to keep him honest. Torres wings out a one-two that misses. Both men cautious, testing their range. Torres cracks Pace with a right hook. Torres with a combo punctuated by a hard leg kick. Good right straight for Torres, followed by some nice defensive head movement. Pace with a good lunging knee that backs Torres into the cage. He gets in another one before dropping for the takedown. Torres defending, but Pace is still leaning into him. Torres looks to threaten with the guillotine, but Pace avoids. Torres goes for the kimura, rolling Pace to the mat, but Pace rolls with it and they both get to their feet. Torres trying to end the round strong, lands a strong right straight. Head kick to end the round.

Round 2: Torres keeping his strikes coming at Pace, mixing his kicks and punches together well. Torres working his range well, keeping clear of most of Pace’s counter attempts. He barely misses on a head kick. Pace hits a nicely timed takedown and Torres starts throwing elbows as soon as he hits the mat. Pace passes to side control, but Torres escapes and presses Pace into the fence, looking for the takedown. Pace defending well, but eats a hard knee to the body. Torres scoring from the clinch, landing short punches and nice knees. Pace working a headlock, but Torres avoids and stomps Pace’s feet for good measure. Torres getting in some good knees to end the round.

Round 3: Torres getting in and out without taking damage, keeping Pace guessing with good head movement and feints. Pace is loading up on his counters, but can’t touch Torres yet. They briefly clinch and Pace gets in a knee, but otherwise it’s all Torres, showing slick timing on his kicks and punches both. Pace closes the distance but Torres turns him into the cage and starts in with the knees again. Pace fights free from the cage, but not after taking some damage. Torres gets Pace grated against the fence again, where he goes back to work, landing strikes repeatedly. Thirty seconds to go and they separate, Torres rushes in with a torrent of punches. Torres with a one-two and a side kick. He throws a cartwheel kick at the bell that misses.

Miguel Torres defeated Nick Pace via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Torres said he had to be careful of Pace, since he had nothing to lose. Gives him credit for being durable and absorbing some hard shots.
