The UFC has announced that a bantamweight tilt between Alex Caceres and Edwin Figueroa has been scheduled for the impending UFC 143 fight card.
A contestant on the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Caceres made it into the UFC despite losing to Michael Johnson in the show’s quarter-finals. The man known as Bruce Leeroy had a difficult first few outings with the promotion, coming up short against Mackens Semerzier and Jim Hettes before dropping from featherweight to bantamweight. In his debut at 135lbs., which came at UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos last weekend against established competitor Cole Escovedo, Caceres looked like a new fighter, one with the potential to become a future contender in the bantamweight division.
8-1 fighter Edwin Figueroa also stumbled in his UFC debut, losing a hard-fought decision to rising prospect Michael McDonald in a fight he took on short notice. In his second appearance with the promotion, Figueroa took out Jason Reinhardt via second round TKO this past August at UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle
UFC 143 is scheduled to take place on February 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature a main event between UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz.
