Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will be making his long-awaited UFC debut next month against former UFC heavyweight kingpin Brock Lesnar. The two are slated to tangle in the main event of UFC 141 for a chance to challenge for Junior dos Santos’ recently earned heavyweight title. Overeem recently spoke with MMAWeekly about his impending bout with Lesnar, giving a brief breakdown and a prediction for the end.
“It’s going to be a very exciting fight. I think all the fans in the world are watching out for this fight,” said the hulking Dutchman. “I think it’s going to be a very interesting match-up. You have the best, strongest wrestler guy – well, not the best, I wouldn’t say, but the strongest wrestler guy out there versus the strongest striker. I think it’s pretty straightforward what he’s gonna do and I think it’s pretty straightforward what I’m gonna do. It’s gonna be who’s better at forcing his game on the other.”
Winner of the K-1 2010 World Heavyweight Grand Prix, Overeem unsurprisingly believes that his vaunted striking skills will make the difference when he meets Lesnar for battle.
“It’s not gonna go to the second round, I’m gonna knock him out in the first round,” he said.
UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem goes down on Friday, December 30, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
