This weekend’s Spike TV preliminary card broadcast for UFC 139: Shogun vs. Henderson will feature a bantamweight tilt between Michael McDonald and Alex Soto, as well as a light heavyweight bout between Ryan Bader and Jason Brilz.
It was previously reported that a middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor and Chris Weidman would run during the broadcast, but Lawlor revealed on today’s edition of MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani that this was not the case.
Michael McDonald will welcome 6-0-1 Alex Soto to the Octagon in what will be his own third contest within the UFC. Sporting a record of 13-1, McDonald will ride a six-fight win streak into the bout, having most recently appeared in action earning a split decision victory over Chris Cariaso. Soto’s most recent fight took place in June under the Deep banner, resulting in a draw to Seiji Akao.
Once considered to be top prospect in the light heavyweight division, Ryan Bader may be fighting for his job against Jason Brilz, having dropped consecutive contests to Jon Jones and Tito Ortiz. His opponent will be in no better a situation, having been defeated by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Vladimir Matyushenko in consecutive fashion.
UFC 139 will take place this Saturday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and will feature a five-round, non-title fight between Pride veterans Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson in the main event. The full card is below:
