The UFC has announced the addition of a pair of match-ups to UFC 142, their impending return to Rio de Janeiro: a welterweight tilt between Siyar Bahadurzada and Erick Silva, as well as a light heavyweight battle between Fabio Maldonado and Stanislav Nedkov.
Afghanistan-born Siyar Bahadurzada is a highly-regarded welterweight training with Golden Glory in the Netherlands. The 20-4-1 fighter has spent his entire career up this point outside of the UFC, competing mostly for Shooto. The 27-year-old makes his UFC debut on the strength of a six-fight winning streak, having won his last four by either KO or TKO.
Team Nogueira fighter Erick Silva made his UFC debut this past August in at UFC 134 in Rio. Sporting a record of 13-1, Silva hit the big stage with a bang, dramatically knocking out Luis Ramos in forty seconds of the first round. Also 27 years old, Silva hasn’t been defeated since 2006, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Mario Neto.
Heavy-handed Brazilian Fabio Maldonado will be competing in his third UFC bout, having gone 1-1 so far during his tenure with the promotion. After debuting with a TKO victory over James McSweeney, the 31-year-old dropped a close decision to Kyle Kingsbury. Also a Team Nogueira fighter, Maldonado claims a pro record of 18-4.
Undefeated Bulgarian fighter Stanislav Nedkov made his UFC debut a successful one, knocking out Luiz Cane at UFC 134 in the first round to improve his record to 12-0; The 29-year-old will be looking to make it 13-0 against Maldonado.
UFC 142 is going to go down on January 14, 2012 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
