Junior dos Santos showed off his boxing skills to the world last night, taking out Cain Velasquez in just over a minute with a big right hand to earn the UFC heavyweight championship on the UFC’s big debut on Fox.
The UFC kicked off their seven-year broadcasting deal with Fox networks last night with an hour-long show on Fox dedicated to the heavyweight title fight. The outcome may not have been exactly what the UFC was hoping for, as a longer bout would allow more time to generate interest in the broadcast and the sport, but it definitely worked out in dos Santos’ favor. The Brazilian put to use his vaunted boxing game, dropping Velasquez with an overhand right and finishing things with ground and pound when his opponent hit the mat.
