Fan-favorite scrapper Clay “The Carpenter” Guida competed in his fifteenth fight in the UFC last night, taking on former WEC lightweight champ Benson Henderson for a shot at Frankie Edgar’s UFC championship. Unfortunately for The Dude, Henderson was a little sharper at every edge and took home the unanimous decision victory.
After the bout, Guida simply gave props to his opponent and vowed to return, telling everyone to prepare to see his wild locks bouncing around the Octagon again and soon.
“Ben’s a warrior. He comes out to scrap every time. We’ve seen him in Fight of the Night’s, we’ve seen him when the cards are against him and he prevails,” Guida said. “I think everyone wanted two more rounds in this fight. He earned it; he’s gonna go fight Frankie and I’m gonna get back. That was a mere speed bump, not a roadblock. You guys are gonna be seeing me real soon, don’t forget about the hair.”
Guida was complimentary in describing the fight, but didn’t hide his disappointment in not extending his winning streak to five in a row and getting a shot at Edgar.
“It was a stellar fight. We came out of the gates swinging. I’m not satisfied with my performance,” he said. “We went out there, we gave the crowd what they wanted. I could care less about Fight of the Night – the bonus is awesome, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate Dana, the Fertittas and Joe for nominating us – but, to me, it was all about that win. But, I’m gonna get right back in there and get back on a title run again. It won’t be long now.”
