UFC On Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos went down tonight from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The evening saw a new heavyweight champion crowned and the establishment of a number one contender at lightweight. As always, bonuses were handed out to the superlative fighters of the night, this evening in the amount of $65,000.
Junior dos Santos was awarded the Knockout of the Night bonus for his first round trumping of Cain Velasquez. Dos Santos did what he does best to earn the heavyweight championship, he stayed on his feet and fired off punches, dropping Velasquez with an overhand right and finishing him with ground and pound just past the first minute of the fight.
Ricardo Lamas took home the Submission of the Night bonus in what was only his second Octagon appearance. Lamas, now sporting a record of 11-2, defeated WEC vet Cub Swanson with an arm triangle in the second round.
Finally, Clay Guida and Benson Henderson were given Fight of the Night honors for their three round battle in the co-main event. Henderson rose to the occasion yet again, defeating seasoned competitor Clay Guida via unanimous decision in a fight which he dominated every aspect. In victory, Henderson earned the next shot at UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar’s title.
