Round 1: No glove touch to get this one started. Both men moving well to start out. Garza lands low with a kick, but they keep on fighting. Poirier tries a head kick that’s partially blocked. Garza working his range early on, keeping Poirier chasing him down with kicks. Poirier catches a kick to the body and dumps Garza, landing some nice punches as Gara gets to his feet and out of danger. Poirier catches another kick and sweeps Garza. Poirier doing very well countering and working Garza in close with punches. Garza catches one of Poirier’s kicks and takes him down, Poirier retains top position, but Garza threatens with a kneebar and Poirier backs out. They reset on their feet, where Poirier eats a kick low. Poirier putting the pressure on Garza now, backing him into the cage with punches. Garza drops for a takedown, but Poirier just follows him down and takes top position. Poirier working ground and pound from half guard. Poirier landing some nasty shots from on top with thirty seconds to go.

Round 2: Garza misses on a spinning elbow and falls down when he gets off balance after throwing a kick. Garza tries for the takedown and Poirier again retains top position. Garza goes for the left underhook to stand up, but opens himself up for a submission. Poirier is looking to set up the d’arce choke and he does just that, forcing Garza to tap quickly.
