Following Nick Diaz’ victory over BJ Penn at UFC 137, trainer Cesar Gracie made an offer to Penn to join their camp. “The Prodigy,” who announced his retirement inside the Octagon following the loss, recently declined Gracie’s request.
“I’ve known Cesar for a while; whether I dislike him at certain times or not, I could never stay mad at that guy. That being said, some of the things Diaz has done kind of rub me the wrong way so I think I’m just going to kind of keep to myself and do my own thing,” said Penn, in a recent interview with his own website. “I’m not even training for a fight anyways, so there is really no reason why I would be up there right now.”
Penn, a former UFC champion, said he will remain with Nova Uniao, who he has trained with since 1999. Diaz, meanwhile, is scheduled to face UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 143 in February.
