Bobby Lashley earned a submission victory over Karl Knothe Friday night in the main event of Shark Fights 21, securing himself the Shark Fights heavyweight championship in the process.
Lashley, a former WWE superstar, secured a first round submission with a top-wrist lock over Knothe at the Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. Lashley trained with Josh Barnett for the fight.
“It was exactly what we worked on, from transition to getting into it. Step by step we went over that same series, like, maybe hundreds of times,” said Lashley, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com following the fight.
As for his next battle inside the cage, Lashley is hoping Shark Fights signs him to another fight as soon as possible. Knothe was the third scheduled opponent for Lashley, who improved to 7-1 with the win.
“I think I do want to stay with Shark because they take care of me really well,” said Lashley, who signed a three-fight deal with the Texas-based promotion earlier this year. “I’d like to do a couple fights to get everything together, and then make the decision a little later.”
