UFC 141 will take place on Friday, December 30, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature a blockbuster heavyweight fight between former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce (and Dream and K-1) heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.
The UFC held a press conference today ahead of the weigh-ins for the landmark UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. dos Santos fight to promote the fight, for which tickets will now go on sale.
The presser featured Lesnar, Overeem, and UFC president Dana White; the following are notes and quotes from the event.
-White reiterates that the winner of Velasquez vs. dos Santos will face the winner of Lesnar vs. Overeem.
-Overeem says that he’s healed from the injuries that forced him from the Strikeforce tournament and he’s ready to go, happy to be a part of the UFC family.
-“‘Bout 6 hours.” – Lesnar on how long it took him to return to one hundred percent following his surgery.
-“I’M BACK and I feel good!” – also Lesnar.
-“Alistair’s done a lot of good things overseas, he’s had a lot of fights and it’s an honor for me to get in the Octagon to kick his ass.” – Lesnar.
-Lesnar’s weighing around 278lbs., not slimmed down at all.
-Overeem isn’t sure how long he’ll train at Xtreme Couture, but he’s very happy there right now.
-“Imagine the heavyweight division without Brock Lesnar. It would suck. But he’s back, I’m happy.” – Dana White.
-Overeem says his experience is going to overcome Lesnar: “I’m gonna tear this guy apart, piece by piece.”
-“I eat ground beef.” – Lesnar on his diet since the surgery.
– Lesnar isn’t offended by Overeem training at Xtreme Couture, doesn’t think it will help him anyway.
-White thinks the fight will still be viewed widely, even though it’s on a Friday night.
-Overeem gives a slight advantage to Velasquez tomorrow night and Lesnar picks him to win as well.
-When asked to comment on his time spent with Junior dos Santos following their coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter Lesnar says, “We’re BFFs now.”
-Lesnar says he would slow the fight down in a rematch with Velasquez, which he says he will get.
-“What Brock does is pretty straightforward, big wrestler guy. I’m gonna be prepared.” – Overeem.
