We’re only days away from the UFC’s debut on Fox networks, for which the promotion is offering what should be a barnburner of a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
UFC on Fox 1 will take place on Saturday, November 12, from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. FightLine will be back on the night with live, ongoing coverage of the event, beginning at approximately 4:45pm ET.
Today, the promotion held a brief press conference with the two men in the main event of the evening; the following are notes and quotes from the presser.
-White: “This is without a doubt the biggest fight in UFC history.”
-Velasquez says this feels like a regular fight week for him. Dos Santos essentially agrees, he’s excited, but he doesn’t feel any more pressure than normal.
-“Cain Velasquez is the number one heavyweight now. I wanna change this on Saturday.” – dos Santos.
-When asked if they plan on sticking to a boxing-oriented gameplan, both men said that it’s MMA and it will be contested everywhere. Dos Santos says that he hopes it does stay on the feet, thinks that will be a better show.
-“Give me my entire roster of guys, everyone healthy, and this is still the fight I would have picked.” – White said of putting Velasquez vs. Dos Santos on network.
-I’m ready to go five rounds, but I think it’s going to end before – JDS
-I’m expecting a five round war, that’s what’s in my head – Velasquez
-I don’t think it’s going five rounds – DFW
-Some goofball asks Cain if he’d adopt the nickname “Shrexican,” because he looks like Shrek. Cain says no, Dana asks him if he’s trying to get beat up.
