Pat Curran will get the next opportunity to dethrone Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren, as a hand injury will keep Patricio Freire from receiving his shot. Curran-Warren is slated for February’s Bellator card.
“Pitbull” won the season four tournament to claim the next shot at Warren, however, Freire had to postpone a first meeting with Warren due to a broken hand. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney told MMAjunkie.com that complications from another hand surgery will keep Freire on the sidelines.
Warren (7-2) lost in the opening round of the bantamweight tournament, as he was trying to secure titles in two weight classes. Curran is 16-4 overall and 6-1 in Bellator. Rebney also said that Freire will face the winner of Curran-Warren next year.
