Renan Barao Keeps Streak Alive, Runs Through Brad Pickett

In his second fight with the UFC, 24-year-old Brazilian Renan Barao dispatched of a game Brad Pickett within the first round of their co-main event fight, submitting the Englishman in front of his hometown crowd.

As promised, Pickett came out of the gate ready to throw down, getting right in Barao’s face and slinging leather. The surging young fighter kept his cool under One-Punch’s assault though and countered well. As he found his rhythm, Barao began to dig in and hit Pickett with damaging blows, but the Brit kept pushing forward, showing no ill effect from the blows. Then Barao hammered him with a knee and the fight changed drastically; Pickett reeled to the mat under Barao’s ensuing assault.

Once on the floor, Barao sunk in the rear naked choke and cranked away, eventually forcing Pickett to tap out at just over four minutes into the fight, earning a $70,000 Fight of the Night bonus in the process.

Barao improved his professional record to 27-1 and remains unbeaten since his very first professional fight, he is now 2-0 in the UFC. The 33-year-old Pickett falls to 20-6.
