UFC President Dana White has gone on record saying current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is the biggest draw in terms of pay-per-view in MMA. Current middleweight contender Chael Sonnen, however, begs to differ.
Sonnen is currently waiting for a rematch with UFC 185-pound champ Anderson Silva. Sonnen, who called out “The Spider” after his win over Brian Stann last month, believes himself to be the No. 1 man in the UFC.
“I’m the biggest draw in the industry today. I sell more tickets, more pay-per-views, and more merchandise than any fighter in history,” said Sonnen, in a recent interview with Fighthype.com. “Comparing GSP to me is like comparing Kimbo (Slice) to (Muhammed) Ali.”
Sonnen, as only he can, finished the interview by stating, “When you are the best fighter in the world today, they got a name for ya. They don’t call you a great fighter, they call you CHAEL SONNEN.”
Before he returns to action, Sonnen will be hosting the MMA Awards on November 30 from Las Vegas, Nevada.
