The UFC today announced the winners of their Twitter bonuses for the first quarter, which started June 1st and ended September 1st.
The UFC announced at their last fighter summit that they would be handing out bonuses in the amount of $5,000 to all fighters under the Zuffa umbrella for active Twitter use, an incentive to market through social networking. The fighters have been divided into four groups according to their number of followers, with a fighter from each group getting a bonus based on who had the most followers, who had the highest increase in followers and who posted the most creative tweets.
Proof of the UFC’s explosion in popularity this year, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva and his Brazilian peers Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Demian Maia and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos all won bonuses for most followers by division.
Further, the bonuses for highest increase in followers were also given to four Brazilians: Anderson Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, Demian Maia and Paulo Thiago.
However, perhaps due to the language barrier, no Brazilians were chosen for the final category of “most creative tweets.” Those bonuses were reserved for Forrest Griffin, Joe Lauzon, Ben Henderson and Joseph Benavidez.
