Reports of Vitor Belfort becoming one of the two coaches for the first Ultimate Fighter reality show set in Brazil have been floating around. However, “The Phenom” has no knowledge of the news.
“You know more than me,” laughed Belfort, when asked about it by Tatame.com recently. “But I hope so. I’m sure this country has a lot of great talents to be found, some better than Vitor Belfort. I’ll do my best to help this country.”
Belfort, who defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 this past August, has his sights set on confronting Chael Sonnen inside the Octagon. Sonnen, who has been very outspoken against Brazilian fighters in trying to talk his way into a title fight with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, has made plenty of disparaging remarks about Belfort.
“My focus is on Chael Sonnen,” Belfort said. “I’m not interested (in) fighting Anderson Silva now. Nobody confirmed me anything; they just said I’ll fight in January. I’m super excited to fight in this card (at UFC 141, which will take place in Brazil). I’ll fight for my people.”
A Belfort-Anthony Johnson match seems to be the likely decision made by the UFC, but nothing has been confirmed by Belfort, Johnson or the promotion.
