UFC President Dana White announced Monday that a UFC featherweight championship match is scheduled between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes for next January in Brazil.
UFC 142 is set to take place on January 14, 2012, though a place or venue have yet to be finalized. The UFC returned to Brazil for the first time in many years this past August. On that card, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva defeated Yushin Okami.
Aldo defeated Kenny Florian at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III in the co-main event to successfully defend his title for a second time in the UFC. “Scarface” is currently on a 13-fight win streak and will be fighting in his native country for the first time since 2007.
Mendes, who is part of Team Alpha Male with Urijah Faber, is 11-0 after only three years in the sport. He was scheduled to meet Aldo at UFC 133, however Aldo was forced out due to injury and Mendes went on to defeat Rani Yahya.
White did not mention if the Aldo-Mendes fight would serve as the main event or even the co-main event for the card.
