Donald Cerrone is one of the hottest fighters in all of MMA, having picked up his sixth consecutive victory Saturday night at UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz by defeating Dennis Siver.
“Cowboy” scored a first round submission with a rear-naked choke to defeat Siver and score the Submission of the Night. He has won three of his last six by submission.
However, the 28-year-old doesn’t feel like he is ready to challenge any champions in the UFC just yet. Instead, the former contender for the WEC lightweight title believes he is a fight or two away from contending.
“It’s happening so fast. Title talk in a year? Oh man, I thought it was just gonna take a couple years,” Cerrone said. “Am I in direct line for a title? No. I don’t wanna just go after it. I still have a lot of soul searching to do.”
Cerrone has made mention of dropping down to 145 pounds and meeting Nam Phan due to comments Phan made about Cerrone’s teammate Leonard Garcia.
