It’s time for the night’s co-main event, taking place in the heavyweight division. “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd hits the speakers and Mitrione makes his slow walk to the cage. Soon though, he strips to his trunks while speeding up his pace, clearly eager to get in the cage. UFC veteran Chris Lytle in Mitrione’s corner. Herb Dean is the third man in the cage.
Round 1: Mitrione comes out with his hands low standing Southpaw, light on his feet. Mitrione lunges in with a right hand that Kongo avoids. Both men showing respect so far, few strikes having been thrown. Kongo is keeping on the outside, looking to counter. Kongo tries with a one-two that makes Mitrione smile. Mitrione again tries a hard right hand. They tie up and Kongo presses Mitrione against the cage. Mitrione mugging for the camera while Kongo holds him against the cage. Dean separates them. Kongo whiffs on two straight rights. Mitrione lands a straight punch, provoking a look of disdain from Kongo. A wide smile on Mitrione’s face. The crowd is growing restless after this very measured round. Kongo with an inside leg kick. Mitrione catches a body kick and dumps Kongo to the mat. Kongo goes to the body, Mitrione fires back with a left hand.

Round 2: Mitrione comes out of the gates hot and gets in Kongo’s face. Kongo lands a few strikes, but Mitrione lands harder with a left hand. Kongo landing inside leg kicks. Mitrione with one of his own. Kongo throwing a hard right traight. Mitrione comes back with a pair of straight punches himself. Kongo landing some good leg kicks, but Mitrione is checking them well. Kongo tags Mitrione with a sequence of punches, but Mitrione gets right back in his face and puts Kongo on the defensive with a hard punch. Kongo with a body kick and a leg kick, Mitrione blocks both well. Mitrione tries to unge after Kongo, causes the Frenchman to slip. Mitrione trying to back Kongo against the fence but he slips away. Mitrione lands a hard left hand. Mitrione is showing some very good defense against Kongo. He lands a hard left uppercut that puts Kongo on the move. Mitrione smells bloody and stalks after Kongo. Kongo is firing shots, but Mitrione is blocking most of them, both punches and kicks. Mitrione walking Kongo back, lands a good inside leg kick. A right hand. Mitrione gets aggressive and nails Kongo as the round closes.

Round 3: Kongo comes out immediately with the one-two. Mitrione comes right back at him, tagging him with straight punches. Kongo goes hard to the body and then lands a good right hand before dumping Mitrione to the mat against the cage. Mitrione tries to grab a leg and then a kimura. Kongo riding top position. Mitrione tries to roll for a leg, but gives up his back instead. Mitrione stands to his feet, slightly battered from the few shots Kongo landed on the ground. Mitrione cut around the left eye, Kongo is staying on him against the cage. Three minutes left. Kongo is warned for landing knees low. Dean warns them to work, so Kongo scoops Mitrione up and dumps him back to the mat. Kongo keeping Mitrione pressed against the fence, landing a little ground and pound while the crowd showers the cage with boos. Mitrione being held down with just over a minute to go. Dean warns Kongo to work. Kongo trying to crank Mitrione’s neck. Mitrione trying hard to get to his feet. Thirty seconds left, Mitrione rolls for a leg and just gets punched for it. Kongo warned for punching he back of the head. Kongo takes Mitrione’s back as the round closes. Bad round for Mitrione.
