Clay Guida-Ben Henderson Bout Not Necessarily A No. 1 Contender Fight

Clay Guida and Ben Henderson have earned impressive wins over the likes of Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller in recent months. The two lightweight contenders even went about calling each other out for a fight to determine the next fighter to face UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

The bout between Guida and Henderson was booked for UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos, and seemed to be a match to name a new No. 1 contender. However, UFC President Dana White told that the match is not a sure-bet to do just that.

“I don’t know. I have no idea,” White said. “We’re going to have to see what happens. I haven’t even thought about it.”

White’s complete focus is currently on making sure nothing goes wrong with the first UFC event on FOX, as the television giant signed the fight promotion to a seven-year deal. The Guida-Henderson fight will be the main bout on the preliminary card, which will stream on both Facebook and FOX’s webiste.
