Alistair Overeem Vows To Put Lesnar Away Within One Round

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem is set to make his long-awaited UFC debut this December 30 in a blockbuster fight against former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. The two are set to square off in the main event of UFC 141 and the hulking Dutchman spoke with FightStarTV recently about what will be billed as the biggest fight of his life.

“I’m very confident,” said Overeem. “It’s going to be a knockout victory in the first round. He’s not going to get out of the first round. It will not come to the second round.”

Lesnar has far less experience than Overeem, but has shown himself to be able to hang and then some against the best fighters in the world. Overeem knows that the former pro-wrestler poses a real threat, but believes that he not only has the tools to beat Lesnar, but to put him away in the first round.

“He’s a strong guy, he’s a very dangerous guy,” he said. “But, I think I’ve got what it takes to stop him. And I got what it takes to stop him in the first round.”

UFC 141 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada; check out FightStarTV’s full interview with The Demolition Man below.
