Spike TV will play host tonight, October 24, to the half-hour long Countdown to UFC 137 preview show ahead of this Saturday night’s UFC 137 fight card. The program will take focus on UFC 137 main event fighters BJ Penn and Nick Diaz, who, through tumultuous circumstances, have come to be facing one another this weekend and will air on Spike beginning at 11:30p.m. ET/8:30p.m. PT.
Originally, Penn was slated to fight Carlos Condit at UFC 137 and Diaz UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. But, when Diaz was booted from the main event after failing to follow through on his media obligations, the card was rearranged to feature St-Pierre vs. Condit at the top of the card and Penn vs. Diaz in the co-main event.
Then St-Pierre got injured.
The champ sprained his knee shortly before the fight, forcing the UFC to postpone the St-Pierre-Condit title fight and promote the Penn-Diaz bout to the main event. Also, heavyweights Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo have had their bout bumped up and will square off in the night’s new co-main event.
UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz goes down on October 29 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. As always, FightLine will be back on fight night with live, ongoing coverage of the event.
