Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir believes Brock Lesnar will defeat Alistair Overeem. Lesnar-Overeem, a battle of former UFC and Strikeforce champions, will be the main event of UFC 141.
Mir has been inside the Octagon with Lesnar twice, splitting the two meetings. He has his own upcoming fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira set for December 10 at UFC 140.
“Honestly, I think Brock will win pretty easily,” said Mir, in a recent interview with ESPN. “I don’t think he’s (Overeem) going to get off his back. I’d be very shocked – I’d applaud Overeem if he got off his back.”
Lesnar is a former NCAA wrestling champion, but has been out of action since dropping the UFC title to Cain Velasquez last year. Overeem is making his UFC debut after competing for Strikeforce, where he was the heavyweight champion.
Mir and Lesnar had some harsh words for each other in the build-up to their last fight, but Mir says that is all over with now.
“Time heals all wounds,” Mir said. “I played that up because at that time in my life, I thought being loud and saying those things would be good marketing for a third fight. In the last couple years I’ve realized, if people are going to dislike me, I want it to be because of my personality and not because of something I did for marketing a fight.”
