The UFC’s heavyweight division will receive another potential title challenger soon according to Rafael Cordeiro, as he told Tatame.com recently that he believes Fabricio Werdum is headed back to the Octagon.
Cordeiro is Werdum’s coach at Kings MMA in California, and said that his student is back to training and could be ready to fight again in December.
“He’s talking to the UFC, and maybe they come up with something for December,” Cordeiro said. “I like the idea, he deserves it. In case it actually happens, UFC is the place he should’ve never left. The best are there, and that’s where Werdum belongs.”
Werdum left the UFC in the 2008 following a loss to current No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos. The organization wanted to resign him, but at a lower pay rate. Werdum said no, and left for Strikeforce. He has gone 3-1 in the company since, including wins over Antonio Silva and Fedor Emelianenko.
