Looks light Frankie Edgar could have a future career as a professional motivational speaker, Matt Foley style.
The “MMA lightweight champion” appeared for the second time before the New York Jets on Sunday night to try and amp them up, get them over their 2-3 slump this season. The last time that Edgar joined the Jets’ locker room, the team went on to defeat the Texans by just three points after scoring a last-second touchdown.
This time, Edgar’s words motivated the team to beat the Miami Dolphins 24-6, bringing their current seasonal mark to an even 3-3. Edgar spoke with a guy that doesn’t know much about the UFC before the game last night to reveal what he told the players.
“My message was play with pride,” said Edgar. “I know they’re not in the position they want to be at this stage in the season. My last couple fights I was kinda the same way in the first round, I was down. I told them never give up, battle back with some pride and you’ll get back where you want to be.”
Edgar last appeared in action on October 8 in the main event of UFC 136, where he again came back from the brink of defeat to this time knock out challenger Gray Maynard.
