Looks like BJ Penn was right in asserting that his bout with Nick Diaz is the real main event of UFC 137; UFC president Dana White just revealed via Twitter that the originally-proposed UFC 137 main event fight between UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit has now been scrapped as a result of the champ suffering an injury.
“I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad sh** everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!! #oneofthosedays,” Tweeted the UFC boss.
White went on to reveal that the champ has injured his knee and that Condit will be put on the bench until St-Pierre has recovered, which should only be “in a couple months,” though White admitted that it’s still too early to tell for sure.
DFW also revealed that BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz will now take the main event slot for UFC 137, but will remain a three-round — not a five-round — fight, since both men have been training to fight for three rounds.
UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz will take place on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada,
