Greg Jackson is one of the most respected and well-known trainers in all of MMA. So, when a fighter does something that impresses even him, you know it was a noteworthy effort.
Jackson, who was a guest on The Savage Dog Show recently, talked about Edgar’s win over Gray Maynard at UFC 136 earlier this month. “The Answer” survived another brutal first round beating, this time going on to defeat Maynard and retain his UFC lightweight title.
“You can’t train that. That’s heart. He’s got something very special,” Jackson said. “It’s really cool and inspirational for everybody to watch that kind of a fight.”
The trainer made another good point when hyping Edgar, saying, “It’s also very intimidating for any of his opponents because you know that no matter how bad you hurt him, if he’s not put away, he’s coming back to get you.”
Edgar, who defeated B.J. Penn twice to win and retain his title, dropped Maynard with a series of heavy punches in the fourth round before finishing the fight and avenging a draw he had with “The Bully” in January.
“It’s a great statement about who he is and puts the rest of the division on alert, that’s for sure,” Jackson said.
