MMAJunkie.com reports that longtime Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer will be the next prominent figure in mixed martial arts to release an autobiography.
Buffer has hinted at writing such a book for some time now, but MMAJunkie indicates that his story – to be titled “It’s Time!” – has now been optioned by Random House publishing; Buffer expects the book to hit shelves in time for the 2012 holiday season.
The Veteran Voice of the Octagon, as introduced by UFC commentator Mike Goldberg, Buffer began his long tenure with the Ultimate Fighting Championship back in 1996, but didn’t become a regular employee with the company until 1997.
Buffer has a long family history in combat sports, being the grandson of John “Johnny Buff” Lesky, who held the boxing World Bantamweight Championship from 1921 until 1922. Buffer’s half-brother, Michael Buffer, is a very prominent boxing and wrestling ring announcer himself, having taken to the profession long before his half-brother. Michael Buffer, who created the “Let’s get ready to rumble!” catchphrase, began his announcing career back in 1982.
Bruce Buffer can be heard weekly on the “It’s Time!” radio show on the Sherdog Radio Network, interviewing various MMA and non-MMA personalities and doling out advice on various subjects.
