Those looking to pay homage to one of the most notable and well-respected coaches in mixed martial arts, Shawn “The Coach” Tompkins, can do so and show his remaining family their support by showing up to the Celebrating the Coach: An Evening in Honor of Shawn Tompkins memorial event scheduled for the last Friday in October.
The event, which will take place on October 28 at the TapouT Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada will feature refreshments, music, speeches by the likes of Bas Rutten, Sam Stout, and Mark Hominick and a silent auction held to support the Tompkins Memorial Fund.
A former fighter, Shawn Tompkins gained notoriety during his time spent as one of the head coaches at Xtreme Couture, having put in mat time with the likes of Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva. His core squad, Team Tompkins, consisted of Chris Horodecki, Sam Stout and Mark Hominick and operated as much as a family as a competition team. Those fighters have all expressed their desire to carry on the Tompkins legacy from here on out in their MMA careers.
The Coach died tragically and unexpectedly in his sleep from a heart attack at the age of 37.
