UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 featured two title fights: a lightweight contest between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, as well as a featherweight tilt between José Aldo and Kenny Florian.
The latter saw perennial UFC contender Kenny Florian attempt to make his third attempt to capture UFC gold; over seventeen fights with the promotion spanning four weight classes, Florian had been granted two previous title shots in the lightweight division. After losing in a lightweight title eliminator against Gray Maynard last year, seemingly ending his chances to challenge for the ’55-pound title again, Florian dropped to featherweight to make his last stand.
Unfortunately for Ken-Flo, he simply didn’t have the right answers for José Aldo, who was able to just outwork him for a unanimous decision victory. Florian clearly showed up to fight and had his moments, too, but it wasn’t enough to unseat the champion in the end. Now, Florian is left to ponder his uncertain future, while Aldo continues his reign at 145lbs. Check out video highlights of the fight below, courtesy ESPN.
