MMAJunkie.com has gotten their hands on the medical suspensions from Saturday night’s UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 fight card; every fighter who competed was handed a mandatory ten-day suspension and five more issued longer suspensions.
Eric “Red” Schafer was given thirty days following his three-round beatdown at the hands of Aaron Simpson. The two middleweights fought to the distance, but only because of Schafer’s formidable chin, which was thoroughly tested by the A-Train.
UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, Leonard Garcia and Mike Massenzio were each given forty-five day suspensions for their efforts. Edgar defeated Gray Maynard by TKO in the epic final installment of their three-fight series to retain his title, Garcia was defeated by unanimous decision in an also-epic rematch with Nam Phan and Massenzio ran through Steve Cantwell to take home a unanimous decision.
Finally, Gray Maynard was given a sixty-day suspension after his memorable third battle with Frankie Edgar. Maynard seemed moments away from capturing the title in the first round, putting the champ on the ropes with heavy punches, but Edgar rallied to put him away with his own volley of punches in the fourth round.
UFC 136 went down on October 8 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
