Chael Sonnen made it clear last night what he wants next: to settle his feud with UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva for good through fisticuffs in a steel cage. Luckily for him, UFC president Dana White is on board.
White spoke with USA Today’s Sergio Non following UFC 136 and Sonnen’s much-discussed post-fight call out of the champ, revealing that Silva is just as angry – if not more so – with Chael as Chael is with him and that he’s looking at making that fight as soon as possible.
During a recent appearance on Mauro Ranallo’s The MMA Show, Sonnen remarked that he was planning on walking in Silva’s back door, “patting his little lady on the ass and I’m telling her to make me a steak, medium-rare just how I like it.”
This did not sit well with the champion.
“That’s very Chael,” White said of Sonnen’s post-fight speech. “Those guys really don’t like each other. Anderson – I don’t know if any of you saw his face when (Chael) won – but he wasn’t doing the whole joking around thing. He was pissed and he’s really upset about the whole smacking his wife on the butt thing and cook him dinner. He’s really upset about it. He’s really pissed about it.”
White has also said that, barring injury or other unforeseen circumstances, he’ll be looking to book Silva-Sonnen 2 as soon as he can.
“Probably, yeah. More than likely,” he said of making the fight. “I don’t like to commit to anything the night of the fight, you know what I mean? But yeah, I’d be pretty f**king stupid if I don’t make that fight.”
