Gray Maynard literally runs out to the cage, ready to put an end to this rubber match. Edgar heads to the cage in similarly hasty fashion, also eager to throw down. Josh Rosenthal will referee tonight’s main event. These two are fired up.
Round 1: No glove touch here, these two have clearly been waiting to fight each other all year. They’re feeling each other out early; it’s Edgar who gets off first with a left hook.Maynard walks through it though and looks to stalk the champion down. Edgar drives in and hits a slick takedown, though Maynard gets right back to his feet. Maynard whiffs an awkward head kick. Maynard rocks Edgar with a right uppercut; he’s starting to pour it on. He lands a big knee. Edgar is still in this, landing a good right in response. Edgar clearly slowed down after that salvo by Maynard; Maynard jacks Edgar with a right hand that sends him reeling. Edgar shoots for the takedown and Maynard stuffs it, sitting on top of him and beating on him. Edgar lands a jab, but Maynard is taking his time and walking him down. Edgar lands a left, but Maynard lands a big knee that sets Edgar’s face to bleeding. Left hook by Maynard and a right hand follow-up. This is eerily similar to their first fight, but Maynard is keeping his composure this time around.

Round 2: Maynard looking loose, keeping a low stance and working the outside. Edgar is moving better, but isn’t as sharp as usual. A minute in and few strikes have been thrown by either man, Maynard clearly looking to keep his composure and pick his shots. Edgar lands a good left hook. Maynard with a straight right. They trade shots from the pocket. Edgar has recovered well, but neither man is running away with this round. Edgar shoots for the takedown, which Maynard avoids easily. Edgar with a body shot. Edgar lands a quick combo. Maynard backed off and let Edgar back in the fight that round.

Round 3: Edgar takes the center, but Maynard avoids his early attempts at offense. Maynard with a knee. Maynard is starting to open up more this round, though hasn’t landed any more than Edgar yet. Edgar lands a leg kick and drops for a single which Maynard avoids. Edgar with a jab. They trade leg kicks, with Maynard’s clearly landing harder. The action has slowed and, even though Maynard has shown that he can end this fight if he puts it on Edgar, he has backed off and is letting the champion score. This looks so much like their first fight it’s strange. Edgar with a good right hand. The champ has found his rhythm and is avoiding Maynard’s counters, tagging him up and getting out of the way before he can respond. Edgar misses a takedown but hits a body kick.

Round 4: Edgar with a one-two before letting the ref know that he’s been poked in the eye. They don’t stop the action though. Edgar tries for the takedown, misses but lands a punch before the break. Edgar lands another good combo. Edgar stuffs the takedown but eats a knee. Edgar stings Maynard with a hard right and then an uppercut. Maynard lands a good straight right. A hard leg kick lands for Edgar. Maynard fails on another takedown. Maynard might just hate himself tomorrow if he can’t put the champion away, Edgar is back to implementing his game: landing quick punch-kick combos, changing levels to keep Maynard off balance and getting out of the way before Maynard can counter. Edgar shoots, it’s stuffed but he lands a hard uppercut that rocks Maynard. He drops Maynard with a left hand and pounds on him until he is unconscious. Wow.
