UFC 136: Joey Beltran Vs. Stipe Miocic

Round 1: They touch gloves and Miocic takes the center. Beltran moving well and avoiding Miocic’s punches as they feel each other out early. Miocic landing leg kicks repeatedly early on, showing very good technique with his set up. Beltran tries to duck in with punches, but Miocic keeps him on the end of his counters before easily snatching a single leg and dumping Beltran to the mat by the fence. Beltran gets to his feet, but he’s being grated into the cage right now. Beltran looks more tentative than usual. Miocic lands another good leg kick. And another. Miocic showing great composure in his UFC debut, taking his time and working shots from the outside to soften Beltran up. Another good leg kick lands for Miocic and he sticks a couple of hard punches before the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Miocic

Round 2: They touch gloves again and Beltran comes out with more urgency this time around. Another good leg kick by Miocic. Beltran lands a right, but Miocic dumps him to the mat against the fence and starts to unleash ground and pound with a purpose. Miocic takes side control, but lets Beltran up when he thinks about the submission. Beltran walking forward with his hands low, swinging away. He takes Miocic down and looks to land his own ground and pound. Miocic gets to his feet with relative ease and presses Beltran into the cage. They both work short knees, Beltran lands a hard left on the break. Miocic eats a body punch or two before grabbing the single and again planting Beltran on the canvas. Miocic isolates an arm, but Beltran powers out and gets to his feet. They trade kicks, both men tiring. Beltran is succeeding in making this a brawl now. They are moving less and starting to slug it out. Beltran tries for a takedown, but Miocic defends. Beltran leaning on Miocic against the fence; Miocic taking some time to rest. Beltran lands again on the break and Miocic answers with a big straight right. Miocic looking for the takedown against the cage. Beltran avoids and they break, slugging away at each other on the fence until the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Miocic

Round 3: They touch gloves again and go back to it, both men looking slower. Miocic lands an inside leg kick, then a good right hand-uppercut combo. Another inside leg kick for Miocic. Miocic keeping Beltran on the outside so far; he fails on a takedown when Beltran presses forward, but pushes him into the cage. Beltran bleeding heavily from his nose and mouth. Miocic works for the takedown and gets it in short order. He briefly takes mount, but slides off of Beltran’s back when he rolls over and tries to stand. Miocic is staying glued to Beltran against the fence, but they eventually break. Both men land decent straight punches in the center. Miocic tries for a slow takedown and is denied. He lands a one-two and a nice leg kick. Both men are breathing heavily. Miocic is stuffed on a takedown, but he manages to put Beltran on the mat as they scramble and he quickly takes side control. Miocic working knees to the body with thirty seconds left. He mounts with fifteen to go and lands some punches before Beltran rolls over. Miocic ends the round on Beltran’s back. scores the round 10-9 for Miocic
