UFC 136: Tiequan Zhang Vs. Darren Elkins

Round 1: They touch gloves and start to swing away, Elkins looking to land straight punches, but Zhang is slipping inside and landing short punches. Elkins tries for the takedown and Zhang threatens with a tight guillotine. Elkins fights through it and ends up in Zhang’s guard, working ground and pound and trying to pass. Elkins showing nice skills with strikes on the ground, going to the body and the head. He passes to half guard. Elkins sets up a possible neck crank and uses to try and pass to full mount. Zhang defends and regains half guard. Elkins passes to mount; Zhang rolls and gives up his back. Zhang doing his best to fight out of it, but Elkins keeps him controlled and looks for the rear naked choke. He lets go, postures up and lands some shots before going back to looking for the choke. Thirty seconds left and Elkins is still riding Zhang’s back, landing punches from that position. Zhang survives the round. scores the round 10-9 for Elkins

Round 2: Elkins shoots two takedowns consecutively, but he has slowed considerably and Zhang defends easily. Zhang drops for the guillotine again and Elkins avoids and rolls him over again. Elkins takes Zhang’s back again, too – looks like the first round all over. Elkins losses back control, but passes to side control. Zhang gets to his feet and Elkins again dives slowly for the takedown. Zhang avoids and looks for the guillotine again; still unable to secure it, Elkins takes top position and works short elbows from half guard. It’s like Groundhog Day in the cage… Zhang reverses briefly, but Elkins reverses him right back, ending up in half guard against the cage. That’s where they end the round. scores the round 10-9 for Elkins

Round 3: Elkins lands a right hand to start. He goes for a sloppy shot behind a right hand and hangs onto a leg when Zhang defends. Zhang drops for the guillotine yet again, but Elkins avoids and gets him down, taking top position. Elkins is working from half guard, landing short elbows and holding position. Elkins passes to side control, again taking Zhang’s back when he rolls over and turtles up. Elkins locks the body triangle. Elkins tries to work for the rear naked choke again, but Zhang defends. Elkins landing slapping arm punches as the round closes, doing enough to clearly win this fight. scores the round 10-9 for Elkins

Darren Elkins defeated Tiequan Zhang via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-27)
