UFC 136: Steve Cantwell Vs. Mike Massenzio

Round 1: No glove touch here to start off the fight card. Massenzio takes the center and Cantwell looks to work the outside. Cantwell showing some nice movement on his feet. Massenzio lands a leg kick. Massenzio moving forward behind combinations, but isn’t landing much. Cantwell starting to land with the front kick. Massenzio with a nice shot to the body and a short left hook in a subsequent exchange. Cantwell dodges the takedown with ease and lands a good left hook to the body-right hand combo. Cantwell slaps Massenzio with an inside leg kick. Cantwell sticks Massenzio with a well-timed right straight, he’s on queer street with a minute and a half left. Cantwell is staying patient, taking his time with a wounded Massenzio. Cantwell tries the flying knee, he gets hit low when Massenzio tries a knee. They get back to it quickly. Cantwell lands a sick lead elbow and then defends the takedown. Cantwell has been susceptible to Massenzio’s left hand in this round; he lands one before the round closes. scores the round 10-9 for Cantwell

Round 2: Cantwell lands a quick head kick to start the round. Massenzio returns fire but it’s blocked. He goes after Cantwell and looks for the takedown. Cantwell defends, pounding Massenzio’s body as he does so. Cantwell lands a good left hook. Massenzio fails on a reaching takedown. Massenzio launches a volley of left hands, with more than one finding their home. Massenzio with another left that stings Cantwell and backs him into the fence. Cantwell lands a knee and extricates himself from the cage. Massenzio is starting to dot Cantwell up with that left hand; he drops for the takedown against the cage. Massenzio backs a bleeding Cantwell into the fence with a sequence of punches. Massenzio swallows a straight right and answers with a left hand counter. Massenzio lands lefts until the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Massenzio

Round 3: They touch gloves for the final frame. Massenzio starts out the round aggressive, hammering Cantwell with a left uppercut before bullying him into the fence where he looks for the takedown. They trade knees before Cantwell fights his way off the cage. They go back and forth in an exchange, with Cantwell backing straight up and allowing Massenzio to chase him down. Massenzio goes for the takedown again behind a series of punches, but Cantwell defends. Massenzio has taken the momentum in the stand-up department, repeatedly landing the left hand. Cantwell goes for the kimura when Massenzio tries to put him down, but he just ends up on his back. He looks for an armbar, but Massenzio backs out and lets him up. Cantwell has slowed down noticeably. He gets rocked by a left uppercut and some follow-up shots. He looks to be in bad shape, but defends a takedown and goes for the guillotine before landing a knee and forcing the break. Massenzio goes back to lighting him up with punches. Cantwell seems to shut down when Massenzio goes after him, but he lands a good knee with about thirty seconds to go. Massenzio goes for the takedown and ends up in top position on a turtled Cantwell. Cantwell rolls for the kneebar but is cut off by the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Massenzio
