Tomorrow night’s UFC 136 main event will indeed be a contest over the UFC lightweight championship, as the two men participating in the bout, champ Frankie “The Answer” Edgar and Gray “The Bully” Maynard, hit the 155lbs. mark today at the official weigh-ins.
Edgar and Maynard are looking to close their three-fight series, with their last bout – also for the title – having ended in a draw.
Having come so close to taking the belt from Edgar last time, Maynard is confident in his chances to actually wrest the title from the champ and was feeling loose after hitting the scales.
“All the preparation is done, let’s have some fun,” Maynard told Joe Rogan. “Oct. 8 baby, tomorrow I’m gonna get that title.”
For his part, the champion is just looking forward to putting Gray Maynard behind him by ending their rubber match decisively.
“I’m ready to do this man,” said Edgar. “I’m tired of thinking about this kid. I’m all about the anti-bully movement, let’s put him on the curb.”
UFC 136 goes down tomorrow night, October 8, from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Check back on FightLine.com for our live, ongoing coverage of the event.
