This is the time when Chael Sonnen begins to wear down, as the former UFC middleweight contender heads into the final stretch before his clash with Brian Stann at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III.
Sonnen and Stann has generated plenty of interest, as UFC President Dana White has mentioned the winner could become the No. 1 contender to Anderson Silva and the UFC title. However, Sonnen recently admitted that he’s feeling a little run down in the home stretch.
“It think it’s just a common thing when you start to wear done,” said Sonnen, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “You can’t manufacture it mentally. Physically, you go in (and) you try to duplicate it, but it just doesn’t happen. And I’ve felt that. I’ve felt that in the last 10 weeks. I think it’s a good sign. I think you should always be a little run down at some point. For me, it’s almost always now. It’s just a tough week, and it’s not just for me. It’s for everybody on the card.”
Sonnen mentioned cutting weight, dealing with media and preparing to travel to Houston for UFC 136, adding, “It’s anxiety week; you’ve got the match coming up. I just think it’s part of the process. I’m not overly worked up or disappointed to be run down.”
Sonnen hasn’t fought since falling to Silva via submission in the fifth round of their title fight last year.
