The UFC today announced a welterweight match-up for the impending UFC 141 fight card between Dong Hyun Kim and Sean Pierson.
“Two talented welterweights on the comeback trail will face off at UFC 141 when Sean Pierson takes on the ‘Stun Gun,’ Dong Hyun Kim,” says UFC president Dana White.
Since having a split-decision loss to Karo Parisyan overturned in 2009 when Parisyan tested positive for banned painkillers, South Korean powerhouse Dong Hyun Kim rattled off consecutive victories over TJ Grant, Amir Sadollah and Nate Diaz – all via unanimous decision. Then, he ran into current number one contender Carlos Condit; Condit put Kim away with a brilliant flying knee in the first round of their UFC 132 match-up, handing the 29-year-old his only lasting loss. The 14-1-1 Kim will be looking to rebound from that emphatic loss when he takes on Pierson.
35-year-old Canadian Sean Pierson made his UFC debut late last year at UFC 124 on short notice against The Ultimate Fighter alum Matt Riddle, taking home a unanimous decision victory. In his next bout, at UFC 129 in Toronto, Grant was steamrolled by The Juggernaut, Jake Ellenberger. Pierson lost that bout via first-round knockout and will also be looking to put one back in the win column at UFC 141.
UFC 141 is expected to take place on December 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and is likely to sport a main event between heavyweight MMA superstars Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
