Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida believes he is done fighting for 2011, saying as much on his Twitter account Monday.
Machida, who turned down a fight with Rashad Evans in August saying he didn’t have enough time to prepare for the fight, last competed in April when he defeated Randy Couture.
A Machida-Phil Davis bout had been announced for December by UFC President Dana White, but White just as quickly recoiled, saying he shouldn’t have announced it and that Davis was not physically recovered from knee surgery. It was rumored that the fight would be a five-round, non-title fight main event for the UFC 140 card in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Many feel While is still upset with Machida, as reports surfaced following his refusal to accept the Evans fight of him asking for Anderson Silva-type money to take the bout on short notice.
“I don’t hate Machida,” said White, in an interview following UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson this past weekend. “Things happen, we butt heads all the time with different guys and stupid stuff is said by them or me and everything else, but I don’t hate anybody. I definitely don’t hate Machida. He’s a nice guy.”
