If you were to see Pat Barry and Stefan Struve walking around together this past week at press events for UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson, you would probably have no idea they are fighting each other tonight.
Barry and Struve, who look like quite the awkward pair seeing as Struve stands a foot taller than Barry, are quite similar other than the height difference. Both are trained kickboxers, and both enjoy having fun outside of the Octagon.
“I always have the same kind of jokes with my trainers, but it’s the first time an opponent is doing the same weird (expletive) as me,” said Struve, in an interview with MMAWeekly.com. “People are following it and people are loving it, so it’s good.”
The two fighters have posted several videos on YouTube and other sites showing how they are going about training to face each other. The videos have been very comical, as Barry trains to fight the 6-foot-11 “Skyscraper,” while Struve works to figure out the 5-foot-11 “HD.”
“The thing is, I like Stefan Struve,” said Barry on MMAWeekly Radio Weekend Edition. “We’re really cool. We laugh and joke every time we’re around each other. Next time I go to Amsterdam, I’m going to go hang out with him!”
That doesn’t mean Struve doesn’t want to take Barry out by any means necessary tonight in Washington, D.C.
“I’m going to try to kick his head off or, when I get the chance, I’ll break his arm or choke him out,” Struve said. “But for the rest, I’ve got no problems with him. So why not have a little fun leading up to the fight.”
FightLine.com will have complete coverage of UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson, beginning with the prelims at 6 p.m. ET.
