Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has been tasked with welcoming fellow Pride FC veteran Dan Henderson back to the Octagon; the two will face off in the main event of UFC 139 this November 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
The ever-respectful Shogun said recently that he’s excited to face Henderson, a highly decorated veteran of the sport for whom the 29-year-old Brazilian holds the utmost respect.
“I’m very happy to have a chance to fight Dan Henderson, who is a legend of the sport,” said Rua. “His career speaks for itself, and to be able to keep fighting at a high level for so long speaks volumes about him as a fighter.”
Rua is glad to have the opportunity to square off against Hendo, not only because it’s a kind of throwback fight, hearkening back to the time they shared competing under the Pride banner, but also because the 41-year-old Henderson is a like-minded fighter, the kind who comes to scrap win or lose.
“This is a fight that could have happened long ago in Pride, and I’m very happy to have a chance to compete against him in such an important time in our careers,” Shogun said. “Every time Dan Henderson fights – much like me – he comes to fight and is always trying to finish, so I expect a very tough fight that the fans will love!”
