Every once in a while, you hear a Chael Sonnen comment that makes it seem like he respects UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. But, there are plenty of other quotes that make it more obvious that he loves to pick on “The Spider.”
When asked by Paul Lazenby if Silva uses any banned substances, Sonnen gave quite the response.
“I don’t think that treatment for Anderson’s problems is prohibited by the UFC, even right before a match. Some medications are limited, as you know, but Anderson is in a state of medical legitimacy because I don’t think that Midol is prohibited, nor are chocolate or Gerard Butler movies,” Sonnen said, who lost to Silva via submission in the fifth round of their title fight last year. “I have never personally had to deal with his sort of condition, but I feel for him and I really want to see what his top fighting form actually is, since we apparently haven’t seen it yet.”
Sonnen, who has a match planned with Brian Stann in October that will likely determine the next contender to Silva, continued to rip Silva on his claims that he fought Yushin Okami last month with a damaged shoulder.
“I can’t remember the last time that he didn’t say he was hurt for a match, and it’s starting to alienate the fight fans,” Sonnen said. “So he should take care of himself when he’s suffering, or else the public will be stuck with the same unengaging fights and lackluster victories until he either dies or finally hits menopause.”
Sonnen-Stann goes down at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard lll on October 8.
