In the wake of Jon Jones’ thoroughly dominant performance against Rampage Jackson last night, it is clear that his next opponent, Rashad Evans, will have his work cut out for him in dethroning the champ.
However, many – including Evans himself – believe that the time Evans’ spent on the mat with Jones when they were training partners at Greg Jackson’s gym will be invaluable in helping him crack the puzzle that is Jon Jones.
“I don’t really got to bring anything more than he’s already seen in training camp,” Evans said of Jones this weekend at a fan Q&A session. “Cause that was enough then, and I think it will be enough later on. That’s a promise.”
After initially denying to say anything about Evans, still sore that his rival – who appeared in-cage with Jones following his win over Rampage – ruined his “special night” for the second time, Jones gave the media this much: Evans’ talk about how things went in the gym is exaggerated and he absolutely does not have his number.
“I will say this about Rashad: He does not have my number,” Jones said. “He’s not even close to having my number. We sparred a few times, and every time we sparred, I know what could have happened. He talks about one day at practice where he held me down, and he lives that day in his head everyday. So we’ll see.”
