UFC middleweight contenders Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort have exchanged words through interviews and Twitter for a few months now.
Recently, the two got a little more specific when talking about each other, as Belfort made claims he would love the opportunity to face Sonnen as soon as both men are able to lock horns.
Sonnen, who has a bout planned with Brian Stann at UFC 136 in October, responded as only Sonnen can.
“You keep using the phase, ‘pound him out.’ I don’t think it means what you think it means, but you’re a dead man either way,” Sonnen wrote on Twitter recently.
Belfort, on his own Twitter account, wrote that Sonnen only talks and has failed to do anything in the cage.
“His time will come, and when it comes, brother, it’s just do the job the way I’d do against any other opponent,” Belfort wrote. “Who’s Sonnen? He never done anything, his fights never sells, he doesn’t knock anybody out, he just brings the trash talk show. If he wants to talk, go do another thing.”
Belfort was forced out of a planned match with Cung Le due to a series of injuries. Sonnen posted, “Hey Vitor, take my name out of your mouth until you show up for half as many fights as you pull out of,” and the two have been exchanging Tweets ever since.
