Vitor Belfort was recently forced to pull out of a planned co-main event bout with Cung Le at UFC 139 due to a serious of injuries.
But, once Belfort gets all healed up, he has a fight in mind for himself: Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen has made a living talking about Belfort, Anderson Silva and many other Brazilian fighters, putting a sour taste in “The Phenom’s” mouth.
“I’d pound him out…Let’s hope he wins this fight (Sonnen meets Brian Stann next month at UFC 136) and the UFC puts him against me,” said Belfort, in an interview with Tatame.com. “That’s the fight everybody wants to see.”
The Sonnen-Stann match could go a long way in determining the next challenger to Silva’s middleweight title, but Belfort believes Silva would allow him the next crack at Sonnen.
“I hope I can fight him. Let’s get this trash talker…I think it’s the perfect timing, he’s a good opponent and it’s a fight that everybody wants to see,” Belfort said. “Even if Anderson wants that fight, I believe he would give me this fight as a gift. I really want to fight him. If he wants to fight Anderson, I’d be a great test for him.”
Belfort hopes to be ready for action in December. He has four weeks of no-contact training to heal up his wounds.
Le will now meet Wanderlei Silva in November at UFC 139.
