Vitor Belfort’s Injury “Nothing Major,” The Phenom Expects December Return

It’s been announced by the UFC that the planned middleweight match-up between Vitor Belfort and the returning Cung Le which was scheduled for UFC 139 this November has been scrapped as a result of Belfort suffering an injury in training.

Though he’s opting to keep the exact nature of the injury a secret, Belfort took to his Twitter today to reveal that he should be all healed up and ready to get back to action by December.

“I am out of november card, I have to take care of a injury,” he wrote. “Nothing major but the good news that the doctor says I will be ready for dec.”

Belfort last appeared in action at UFC 133 last August against Yoshihiro Akiyama, whom he defeated by emphatic first-round knockout to rebound from his own knockout loss to Anderson Silva dating back to UFC 126.

Belfort has been replaced at UFC 139 by his fellow Brazilian Wanderlei Silva, who will be returning from a quick knockout loss to Chris Leben at UFC 132 to challenge Le.

UFC 139 is expected to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on November 19.
